Program of The Year: Georgia Stars

Having the #1 team in the country at 17u and 16u had never been done before.  Until now.

A dominant run in the Peach Jam for 17u and Winning the Las Vegas Classic to camp the year off made it easy to crown the Georgia Stars the #1 grassroots team in the country.  The 16s also had an amazing year in the EYBL and expect big things from them in the future.

New Program: Elfrid Payton Elite

As the new kids on the block Cleavon Williams did a great job directing the team through their first year in the Nike EYBL.  They made the Peach Jam with a 10-7 record.  Program looks to have a bright future as a 2018 Freshman in Javonte Smart averaged 11 points, 4 reb and 3 assists per game (d1circuit.com).  Even better for the program, he made the USA Basketball 16u team and won a gold medal in Argentina in June.

Game of Year: St Louis Eagles Vs. CP3

The semi-finals of the Nike EYBL Peach Jam game down to a St. Louis Eagles buzzer beater.  Eagles end up winning 74-73 with a remarkable 28 point performance by Duke commit Jayson Tatum.

Best Individual Game of the Year: Lonzo Ball

If there were a category for most controversial and talked about player on the circuit this year it goes to Lonzo Ball.  Lonzo the oldest of a 3 brother trio headed for UCLA became a topic of conversation on Twitter as a polarizing figure.  They said he thrives in the system (Big Ballers) cultivated for him and has been “ducking” competition.  Being that as it may, Lonzo took to the Adidas Uprising Summer Championships with his local team and put up a 36 point performance on the Atlanta Celtics in an upset win.  Combine that with 10 rebounds and 9 assists.

Player of the Year: Harry Giles

Harry dominated games on both ends of the court for Team CP3 averaging a double double throughout the season.  Many top analysts suggest in one of the best classes in recent memory, Harry is the top player.  Winning a gold medal with the U19 team as the anchor, Giles wanted to prove a point coming off a knee injury that he was the best player in the 2016 class.  He will finish his senior year at Oak Hill.

Coach of the Year: Jeff McInnis - Team Charlotte

Team Charlotte going into the Under Armour Association season was an afterthought and wasn't expected to make it to the finals.  They circuit started that all changed.   They won big games and upset some of the top teams in UAA.   They were expected to be bounced out early but peaked at the perfect time and took the whole thing.  Team Charlotte finished #2 in our rankings leaving the question.  What would a game between Georgia Stars (Nike) and Team Charlotte (Under Armour) look like?

Best Event of the Year: Adidas Global Nations

The finale of the Adidas Nations and Adidas Uprising Series, the Global Nations takes place in LA and Adidas spares no expense.  First class event, top notch talent split up into evenly matched teams from different regions of the country.  Simulatenously you have College players and future NBA rookies battling it out with NBA execs there.  The 3rd place game and championship eventually ended with games on ESPNU.

Play of the Year: Jordan Barnes (St. Louis Eagles) game winner in semi-finals of the Peach Jam

Fadeaway 3 pointer with 5 seconds left in semi final for the win in the Game of the Year no less.

Most Exciting Player: Josh Jackson

Considering top players in 2016 is usually a dogfight between Josh Jackson, Harry Giles and Jayson Tatum.  Josh from an entertainment point of view takes this award.  A type of athleticisim you do not see very often, Josh is long and can bring out a home run play at any time.  Combine that with great court vision to set up teammates, Josh capped off a great year leading his 1Nation squad to win the Fab 48.

Biggest Stock Riser: Sam Hauser

Sam Hauser came into this AAU season pretty much an unknown commodity on the AAU scene but having great performances during the spring against great competition.  Committed Marquette.

Best New Video Service: Courtside Films

This crew was at plenty of big time events providing some of the best player mixtapes out!
