HFTV Insider Report: Vol. 12 (Mid Season Report)

HS / Club News & Notes

1. Taking on a nation schedule Sierra Canyon has proven to be a resilient hard working group. After tough games in the City Of Palms, SC came back to the west coast looking for redemption and growth. With wins over Pebblebrooke (featuring Harper, Hudson and Ogbeide ) in the Max Preps Classic finals as well as victories over DeMatha ( DC) and Corona Del Sol (AZ) in the Hoop Hall Classic West, it's clear this ball club is coming together. Coach Ty Nichols discusses developing a cohesive team culture with HFTV.

2. 2015 Elite 2G Charles Matthews (St. Rita) has lead his ball club to a (13-2) record out of the gate, is displaying exemplary leadership. Coach Gary DeCesare down played a key victory at Moraine Valley Community College over city power, Simeon yet the win is resonating. Look for St. Rita to emerge in the national polls as the season continues to take shape.

3. Findlay Prep point guard Derryck Thornton is one of the Top 2016 PG's in the country. It looks as if Kentucky & Coach Cal's tutelage could be the most complementary fit for the '2016 PG as he moves to the next level.

4. As the Top Prospect in HS basketball, Thon Maker is positioning himself for reclassification into class of 2015. Maker's teammate Orangeville Prep (Ontario) shooting guard Jamal Murray is considering moving into the class of '15.

5. 2017 PF Billy Preston has decided to leave Redondo Union and attend Prime Prep mid season. Before deciding on the Texas Prep school Preston considered Findlay and Prolific Prep.

6. Prep upstart, Balboa City of San Diego continues to compete in high level showcase games yet has lacked the necessary horses to support their stallion. 2017 elite PF DeAndre Ayton has been a man of mystery, not being able to be interviewed by media. Their is no question about his game and leadership skills at a relatively young age. The most pressing question is why there is so little talent surrounding Ayton.

7. 2015 PG Marcus Lovette looks to be settling in at Morgan Park. Lovette has lead the Mustangs to (11-3) record, given Coach Nic Irvin an elite ball handler to command the offense.
