The tournament had 4 pools of 4 teams in each pool. The pools were:

Pool A had Compton Magic Elite (CA), Socal Soldiers (CA), Top Gun Coastal Elite Orange (CA) and AZ Stars Elite (AZ). The top two teams were clearly Compton Magic and the AZ Stars. The two teams hooked up in a slugfest, but the AZ Stars pulled off the victory over the talented players from California. 6-foot-7 SF 2015 Isaiah Bailey (Compton) impressed in the loss, but it wasn’t enough as the older team led by two seniors of 5-foot-8 PG Zakie Johnson (Chavez) and 6-foot-5 SG Ahmed Levon (North) took control of the game with their stellar play down the stretch.

Pool B had Prodigy (CA), MOC Magic Elite (CA), Paul George Elite (CA) and Marcus Banks H2G (NV). Prodigy (CA) was the elite team in the group.  MOC Magic Elite couldn’t hang with these teams and the other 2 teams were fighting for 2nd best in the pool. Prodigy was led by 2013 6-foot-9 PF Kindell Kinloch from Las Vegas. Also great shooting from 2014 6-foot-5 SG Nick Colletta (Glendora).

Pool C had Power Black (AZ), BYC Miners (CO), Gamepoint (CA) and Dream Team (AZ). Power beat each team by 15 or more. They were clearly the class of the pool led by 2014 PG 6-foot-3 Casey Benson (Corona) and 2014 6-foot-9 PF Connor MacDougall (Corona)-ASU committ. Gamepoint beat Dream Team by only 2 points in a close affair led by 2014 6-foot-0 PG Devin Watson (Army Navy). Superstar 2014 6-foot-3 PG Josh Perkins (Regis Jesuit)-who is ranked in top 50 nationally-couldn’t carry his team as they lost every game.

Pool D had Compton Magic Select (CA), Passion 4 Ball (AZ), The Magic Elite (AZ) and OC Pride (CA). The 2 dominant teams were Magic Elite and Compton Magic. Passion 4 Ball was 3rd best team. The Compton Magic had 2015 kids, whom boasted 2 nationally ranked players plus a kid who already holds a USC offer. Not a bad trio of players. 6-foot-2 PG Sedrick Barefield (Corona Centennial) and 6-foot-7 F Cameron Walker (Righetti) both ranked nationally. Then 6-foot-5 SG Rex Pflueger already was offered by USC. They destroyed the OC Pride and Passion 4 Ball, but did have a real close back-and-forth game with The Magic. The Magic was led by 2017 6-foot PG Alex Barcello (Corona). The Compton Magic 2015 kids pulled out a close victory over the Magic to advance to the semi-finals bracket.

The semi-finals were set for Power Black (AZ) versus AZ Stars Elite (AZ) and Compton Magic Select (CA) versus Prodigy (CA). Power Black pulled out a victory by double digits and Compton Magic won a close game versus Prodigy. In the finals, Power Black defeated Compton Magic Select in a tough battle to win the 17U Super Pool. Casey Benson was named MVP.

Benson holds offers from Creighton, Nebraska, ASU, Colorado, Oregon and St. Mary’s to name a few.
